PRELUDE

Herb planned trip.

Beth and Dan??? dropped out after Beth's emergency appendectomy. CJ dropped out because of scheduling issues. Sheri dropped out from illness.

THURSDAY FEBRUARY 12 2009

Bob, Herb, and Emily went to Common Man in Plymouth for lunch (closed), then to Lucky Dog Tavern & Grill that was closed and finally to the deli/pub Biederman's Deli in Plymouth

Noted many snow bare spots on side of road around Jay

Nate caught up to us in Jay.

Rented ranch at 380 Loop Road, Jay, VT 05859, (802) 578-7103, for _____ for weekend.

Went to dinner at Jay Village Inn

Tried to go to Montgomery Center for some entertainment but Herb's car couldn't get up a steep hill.

Herb's 30 birthday today!

FRIDAY FEBRUARY 13 2009

Foursome went skiing and snowboarding. Conditions "variable". Too windy for tram (one of three trams in NorthEast) and high speed chair (longest in NorthEast) to run. Very cold and very windy. Had rained Wednesday and Thursday.

Bob and Emily rented Diabello ski boots at mountain.

Bob broke pole grip on first run falling.

Emily twisted knee skiing in morning, same knee Rick Lu ran into last year. Em kept skiing but afterward couldn't for the weekend.

Lift lines empty!

Went to Golden Eagle Lounge at are for ap re ski.

New big building going up at ski area.

Dan and Bethany showed.

Six went to Dirty Sally's for dinner then Bob, Nate, and Herb went downstairs for some bad old and boring music. Thirtieth birthday party there.

SATURDAY FEBRUARY 14 2009

Same conditions but high speed chair open and running half speed.

On send run Herb ran into tree, hitting it below knee, knocking him out of commission for weekend.

Very icy by end of day. Nate especially not liking it.

Tried the Belfry in Montgomery Center for dinner but packed. Very cool country tavern with low entree prices. Tried to get into Trout River Traders in Montgomery Center, line an hour long. Need reservations next time. It's a very cool in village on Main St, old building, open railed ceiling. Ate nearby at low key Snow Shoe Pub.

Bob, Nate, Herb, and Em went to Belfry for one on way back.

Watched Italian Job back at ranch.

Again, very dicey at end.

SUNDAY FEBRUARY 15 2009

Bob and Nate (and Dan and Bethany) went skiing and snowboarding. Weather much better. Not the wind, although again the top was in clouds. Bob bent pole around tree in Show Off Glade. Nate laughed.

Went up aerial tram twice, descending Vermonter each time resulting in longest runs.

Again, very icy at end.

No injuries.

Tried Newport for dinner (Bob, Herb, Nate and Emily). Eck. Most places closed. Ate at marina (East Side Restaurant & Pub), was okay. Bob had local perch from 27 mile long Lake Memphremagog.

MONDAY FEBRUARY 16 2009

Nate left early

Bob, Herb and Em drove to Rhode Island via Cabot Creamery in Cabot, Vermont.

Watched Harrison Ford in The Fugitive

HIGHLIGHTS AND LOWLIGHTS

• Injuries
• yellow caution sign on roadside near ranch with cow and underneath "1000 feet"
• dog left in car in ski area parking lot kept barking and setting off alarm
• Dan ate Bob's Oreo's
• Chatty Kathy in tram talked about bad condition of cables. Tram was replaced last year and she will not ride Flyer
• Glades all over Jay
• Someone wrote "Nate is a Sally" on frosted tram window
• Kokomo ski glade
• Bushwacker ski glade
• Show Off Glade (where Bob broke pole)
• Jay Peak bragging about having had 270 inches of snow fall but now has as little as 18 inch base.
• Nate: Aerial tram and the many glades
• Emily: After ordering spaghetti and meatsauce the waitress returns from kitchen to say, "We haven't had any since last week."
• Bummer about not bringing passports so we could cross border to Sherbrooke that was one hour away. Border was five miles from ranch.
• Emily: Twirling snow at top of mountain
• Bob saying to Nate, "Look how windy it is at the top."
• Ski Area rep saying to Bob with Herb present, "You pick your words carefully, your mouth never gets you in trouble." Herb, "You figured that out in the two minutes you've been talking to him!?"
• Guy on chairlift talking about a YouTube clip of the first person to ski Everest, a Japanese ski instructor in the 70's
